    Vol. 1 No. 1, September 2026

The inaugural issue of the Hamupa Journal of Economics and Management (HJEM), Volume 1, Number 1, September 2026, marks an important milestone in the journal’s commitment to advancing scholarly discourse in economics, management, and applied business research. As a peer-reviewed and open-access academic journal, HJEM provides a platform for researchers, academics, practitioners, and policymakers to disseminate rigorous empirical, theoretical, and applied studies addressing contemporary economic and managerial challenges.

This issue presents two research articles that highlight the diversity and practical relevance of contemporary economic and management scholarship in Indonesia. The first article, “Organic Fertilization Practices and Coconut Productivity in Smallholder Plantations: Evidence from Nabire Regency, Indonesia,” examines agricultural practices and their implications for productivity among smallholder coconut plantations. The study contributes to the understanding of sustainable agricultural management and rural economic development, particularly within the context of smallholder-based production systems.

The second article, “Internal Control and Civil Servant Discipline: Evidence from the Department of Livestock and Plantation in Central Papua Province,” investigates the relationship between internal control mechanisms and civil servant discipline within a public-sector organizational setting. The study provides empirical insight into organizational governance, administrative effectiveness, and human resource management in regional government institutions.

Together, the articles in this inaugural issue demonstrate the journal’s broad interdisciplinary orientation, connecting economic development, organizational management, public-sector governance, agricultural productivity, and institutional performance. The issue reflects HJEM’s commitment to publishing research that not only contributes to theoretical development but also offers practical implications for organizations, communities, and policymakers.

Through this inaugural publication, Hamupa Journal of Economics and Management seeks to foster continuous scholarly dialogue and encourage evidence-based approaches to contemporary economic and managerial challenges. The journal welcomes future contributions that advance knowledge, strengthen theory and practice, and contribute to sustainable economic and organizational development at local, national, and international levels.
